My Top 100 Songs of the 1980s

On this page, I am ranking my favorite 100 songs from the 1980s.  I made my first mixed tape of 80s songs back in college, which was in the early 90s.  So it didn't take me long to reminisce about that music. 

Now my daughter Jillian is a big fan of 80s music.  She was born in 2007, long after the decade ended.  Listening to these songs with her inspired me to create this countdown.  I have ranked these songs based on how much I remember liking them back in the day, along with how much I still like them now.  I think some songs have withstood the test of time better than others, and this countdown would have been rather different had I completed it right as the 1980s ended. I have compiled this ranking in 2018, obviously nearly 30 years after the decade ended. 

I have the songs at the link below, with the official video for the song, if one exists.  And in many cases I've written up a little personal story about the song. Some of the videos may be terrible, so keep in mind that this is my rankings of my favorite songs from the 80s, not necessarily my favorite videos from the 80s. 

100 might seem like a lot of songs.  But there are so many great 80s songs that it was quite difficult to narrow it down to 100.  There are plenty of great songs that I omitted, so I hope nobody is offended if their favorite song didn't make my cut.  My countdown includes songs from many different genres of music:  Rock, Pop, R&B, Rap, Country, Dance, Glam Rock, Smooth Jazz, etc.  Anybody who likes 80s music will agree with some of my selections.  And I'm sure most people will disagree with a bunch also.  And I'm sure many people will think I should lose my Man Card with some (or most) of my picks.  But I think I lost it long ago anyway, so I'm not worried about that.  

It might be tempting to skip right to the top of the chart, but it would probably be more fun to start at the beginning and work down to #1.  So sit back, take your time going through the countdown, and watch some videos from some great 80s songs that maybe you haven't seen in a few decades...
